Liberal Massachusetts

Massachusetts: where everything goes, except... a casino.

It's ironic that one of the most liberal states in the country - a state that says ok to abortion, ok to lenient sentences for violent crimes, ok to gay marriage, ok to lottery tickets in every convenience store, suddenly we find a way to say no to a casino - a project we don't even have all the facts about yet.

We're told that along with a casino comes traffic, crime, prostitution, addictions, etc..   The Wrentham Factory Outlet brought with it traffic and crime where there was once none.  That is a byproduct of development and it can, and is, controlled.  Are we against development?  A small percentage of people are prone to addiction whether from cigarettes, alcohol, food, gambling or any number of things.  Should
we deprive responsible adults because of the actions of a few?  Should we stop selling lottery tickets, fast food, cigarettes and alcohol?

Good or bad, casino's are here to stay. The Justice Department has just given states the ok to move forward with online gambling. While we have the opportunity we should listen to the proposal by Mr. Wynn.  If the proposal benefits the town and its citizens, if the positives outweigh the negatives, why not  a five star resort destination. If the town doesn't agree it's a good idea, we've lost nothing.
