UMass-Amherst New Home Team for Gillette Stadium

University expected to announce on Wednesday they will be moving to the MAC conference and moving their home games to Foxborough.

The University of Massachusetts-Amherst football team is moving up to Division 1 and will be moving its home games to Gillette Stadium in Foxborough in 2012, according to a report in The Republican. The Springfield newspaper said the official announcement will be made Wednesday at the stadium at 3:30 p.m.

The Minuteman will joining the Mid-American Conference as a fulltime member in 2013, according to the Republican. In 2012, UMass will be playing in the Colonial Athletic Association of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) or Division 1AA. The Minutemen will play a mixed schedule.

Last year, UMass played the University of New Hampshire at Gillette Stadium for the first time. The two schools will be returning to Foxborough in the fall.
