Tebowmania Lands in Foxborough

Foxborough looks to gain playoff revenue boost while Tim Tebow is named America's favorite active pro athlete.

The Tim Tebow train will come rolling into Foxborough Saturday night for the National Football League playoff game at Gillette Stadium. The New England Patriots are in the Superbowl hunt, looking to take the Denver Broncos out of the running Saturday.

Playoff Patriot games are always good news for not only Patriot fans, but the town of Foxborough as well. According to Selectmen Chairman Larry Harrington at Tuesday night's board meeting, the town looks to receive approximately $100,000 in additional revenue from each playoff game held at Gillette Stadium. Additional playoff games are also welcome news to surrounding area businesses that expect to see a boost in business and sales.

However, there is something different about this particular playoff game on Saturday or, as many Tebow fans would say, "something magical."

Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow helped to lead his team to victory last weekend, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers in grand overtime fashion. The Patriots, the top-seeded team in the conference, are gearing up to stop the Tebow train in its tracks for good this season. In what many Patriot fans would classify as an "easy win" for Tom Brady & Co., some are saying, not so fast.

Tebow has taken America by storm this season, pulling out wins in the last crucial seconds of the game, making some fans question the relationship between skill and faith. According to a recent ESPN Sports Poll, Tim Tebow is now America's favorite active pro athlete, putting him ahead of LeBron James, Aaron Rodgers and New England's own Tom Brady. Sure, Rodgers can discount double check during game breaks and Brady can smash throwing records, but America has quickly latched onto Tebow.

"I think the media is hyping up the "Tebow mania" however he has a good back story and a strong faith, including his "tebowing " which all the kids in school are doing now," commented Foxborough resident Diane Flint Greer. "The fact is his numbers are not that good, so people are believing his strong faith has helped his winning record."

"Seems like a nice kid but my money is on Brady," she added.

If the Patriots win Saturday, they would host the American Football Conference championship game against either the Houston Texans or the Baltimore Ravens. If the Broncos win or the better question is, can the Broncos win? According to sports writer Woody Paige of the Denver Post, "anything is possible in the Year of the Miracle for the Broncos."
