Sharon Swimming Sweep Warriors

The Eagles beat the Warriors 5-71 in the girls' meet and 104-58 in the boys meet

The Foxborough warrior girls didn’t have any problem winning races against Sharon; it was getting second and third that was the issue.

“We maybe can win each event but we don’t have the depth to come in second or third,” Foxborough coach Kiley Macie said.

After missing the qualifying mark by a second against Attleboro, the Warriors’ girls' 200-yard medley relay qualified for the Central/South Sectional Meet with a time of 2:07.69. The team of Lindsay Julio, Maddie Fletcher, Meghan Foley, and Hannah Fishman was put together specifically to get a qualifying time and guarantee them a postseason spot.

There was very little time for Fletcher to relax as she was scheduled to compete in the very next race. Her time of 2:14.45 in the 200-yard freestyle was good enough for a first place finish. Christine Lahive of Sharon came in second place with a time of 2:25.31

In addition to her relay win, Foley also picked up two wins in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:24.75 and in the and in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.00.

Carly Krause helped grab precious points for the Eagles as she swam a 1:24.07 in the 100-yard breast stroke and won the 50-yard free style with a time of 29.90. Her time in the 100-yard breaststroke was a four second improvement from her previous personal best.

“She’s (Carly) on a real high and we’re looking forward to some more improvement from her,” Sharon head coach Jennifer Iverson said.

On the boys’ side was a more decisive decision as the Eagles obtained victories in nine of the 11 events.

Will Sweet won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:05.19. The time was impressive for someone who has not often swam the event.

“We’re finding out that it's a real strong point for him,” Iverson said.

Dan Griffen of Sharon took first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:59.52. Foxborough’s Jake Harrington made his debut in the race with a 2nd place time of 6:37.88.

In addition to his 500 time, Harrington won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.12. Not far behind was his teammate Ryan Stringfellow with a time of 29.59.

The Eagles were able to get wins in all three relays as they took first place in the 200 yard medley relay, the 200 yard freestyle relay, and the 400 yard freestyle relay.

The Warriors are now 2-1 for the girls and 0-3 for the boys. The Eagles improve to 1-2 for the girls and 2-1 for the boys.

Foxborough will be off for the rest of the year. They will swim at North Attleboro on Jan. 7. The Eagles will host King Philip on Jan. 5.
