Season Preview: High Hopes for Foxborough's 2011 Volleyball Team

Head Coach Dan Damish discusses his thoughts on the 2011 season.

In a sport where every win matters and the fight is always on for limited tournament spots, Foxboro volleyball looks to find themselves in the fight to get to the postseason. Despite posting a 10-8 record last year, the Warriors found themselves on the outside looking in concerning the state tournament. Coach Dan Damish is looking to change that this year but it won’t be easy in a league with lots of parity.

“Every team is good so I would say there are no underdogs. You have to come ready to play every match,” said Damish.

To get ahead of the even playing field, Damish is looking to stress the back row defense while increasing the team’s depth in front row blocking and hitting.

To do this, Damish will be relying on senior captains Kayla Carew, Hannah Whitney, and Jamie Monahan. Giving the seniors support will be Ally Perry. Perry will set and hit for Foxboro and could be the breakout star for the Warriors.

“Ally Perry has had a great pre-season and she could be a top player in the league,” said Damish.

In addition to Perry, Ashley Snyder will be returning to the team. The junior was the leading hitter for the Warriors last season and will be a big part of the team this year.

Looking to build strength in the backrow defense, Damish has set up his five seniors to play defense. In addition to Carew, Whitney, and Monahan, Kendall Stopa and Kassidy Quadrozzi will play on the back row. Stopa and Carew will also play the front row to be the team’s front row hitters.

Despite their strengths on the court, the Warriors will quickly have to deal with the youth and inexperience on the team. With nine seniors graduated from last years’ team, the Warriors will have little time to learn how to work together and get the confidence and communication needed to compete in the Hockomock League.

“We need to communicate as a team more on the court and pass better. Also a weakness especially early in the season will be our inexperience due to the loss of 9 seniors,” said Damish.

The Warriors will begin their season on the road at Stoughton on Friday September 9th at 4:45pm.
