Question of the Day: Proposed Liquor Store in Foxborough

Wine Nation sets its sights on Patriot Place. What do you think?

Drunken rowdiness at Gillette Stadium has some Foxborough residents fed up, leading them to question a proposed liquor superstore in the shopping center next to Gillette.

According to the Sun Chronicle, town selectmen are saying that many residents are contacting them about the proposal to transfer the license of Central Wine and Spirits, to Wine Nation, a big box store, specializing in wines and beers, at Patriot Place.

Wine Nation Inc., recently entered into an agreement to purchase the alcohol package store license from William Varkas at Central Wine and Spirits, located on 50 Central St. in Foxborough. In an application submitted to town hall, Wine Nation entered into an agreement to buy the seven-day all-alcohol package store license and supplies from Varkas at Central Wine and Spirits for $325,000.

Patriot Place currently has 13 establishments that serve alcohol, but no package stores.

A public hearing with selectmen will be held on the liquor transfer.

If approved, Wine Nation would look to set up shop in the south plaza of Patriot Place in a 20,331-square-foot space.

According to it's website, Wine Nation "is a wine lifestyle superstore, focused on the core product offerings of wine and beer." Along with it's core offerings, Wine Nation sells a selection of gourmet foods, gifts and selected seasonal items.

Foxborough Patch wants to know what you think of this proposal. Does it go against Police Chief Edward O'Leary's efforts to fight drunkenness at the stadium? Tell us in the comments or email courtney.jansson@patch.com.
