Brazil legend and Gillette ambassador Pele and Portugal legend Eusebio are scheduled to appear at tomorrow’s Brazil-Portugal international friendly at Gillette Stadium, organizers announced today. The two players, who were contemporaries and are both considered their country’s best-ever players, are scheduled to appear in a special pregame ceremony before the seventh-ranked Portugal National Team faces the ninth-ranked Brazilians at 8:30 p.m.
Additionally, the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup – which Brazil won in June – will be on display in the Gillette Stadium Picnic Zone from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Fans who enter the stadium early will have the chance to see the trophy and take pictures with it for one hour.
Pele, who is widely considered the best soccer player to ever play the game, was a legend for Brazil for 15 years, making 92 appearances for Brazil while scoring 77 goals. Playing for Brazil’s power Santos, Pele made more than 600 appearances and scored 619 goals. He later went on to star for the New York Cosmos.
Eusebio was a legend for both Portugal and club Benfica during his playing days. With Portugal, he earned 64 caps and scored 46 goals, while scoring more than 300 goals for Benfica spanning 15 seasons. Locally, he also played one season with the Boston Minutemen in the NASL. A statue of Eusebio stands in the Gillette Stadium Picnic Zone.
Tomorrow, the Gillette Stadium gates will open at 6:30 p.m., after parking lots will open at 4:30 p.m. Gillette Stadium parking charges will apply for all fans. The MBTA will also run a train from Boston, with tickets available for pre-boarding purchase at South Station, North Station, Back Bay and Dedham Corp., stations.
Tickets are still available for purchase and start at $50. Tickets are on sale through all Ticketmaster outlets and the Gillette Stadium box office by calling 1-877-GET-REVS. There are a limited number of seats in the lower bowl still available through the purchase of special package offers.
