Gracie Gold is in fourth place following Wednesday’s short program, as women’s figure skating got underway at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Gold is the reigning U.S. National Figure Skating Champion.
Gold’s Wednesday short program score of 68.63 was just short of her personal best.
This is Gold’s first time at the Olympic games. “I can't believe I just competed at the Olympics!!!!! It was a dream come true,” she Tweeted Wednesday right after competing.
Gold, who was born in Newton, learned to skate in her childhood hometown of Easton.
In competition Wednesday, Gold fought for some of her landings with a couple of tilted jumps but managed to work through them, with another beautiful performance.
"She's everything you want in a ladies championship skater," said 1984 Olympic men’s champion and NBC commentator Scott Hamilton immediately following Gold's performance.
in the standings, Yuna Kim of South Korea is currently in first place, followed by Adelina Sotnikova of Russia in second and Italy’s Carolina Kostner in third. Less than a point separate the top three. U.S.The free skate portion of the competition begins at 10 a.m. EST Thursday in Sochi.
