Friday’s Forecast Pushes Foxborough-Stoughton Basketball Games to Thursday

The state and national news networks all agree on one thing: There is a storm coming to town for Friday and Saturday.

What they don't agree on is how much snowfall you're going to see but with the National Weather Service, based in Taunton, issuing a Winter Storm Watch from late Thursday evening through Saturday afternoon, high school athletics are taking no chances.

Stoughton High School Athletic Director Ryan Donahue announced on Twitter Wednesday afternoon that Friday’s Foxborough-Stoughton basketball games have been moved to Thursday to beat the predicted forecast.

“Due to weather, Friday's basketball match-up vs. Foxborough has been moved to Thursday, Feb. 7,” Donahue tweeted. “Locations and times remain the same at all levels.”

For varsity that means Foxborough’s boys’ basketball team will host the Black Knights at 6:30 p.m. while the girls’ will travel to Stoughton for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off. Foxborough boys' lost the first meeting with Stoughton this season, 68-55 and the FHS girls' lost a heart-breaker, 45-44 in the final second.

NWS Issues Winter Storm Watch

“A major winter storm will bring the potential for a foot or more of snow across much of the region Friday into early Saturday and travel may become nearly impossible,” the NWS says.

Winter Storm Watch now in effect from late Thursday night through Saturday afternoon.

Heavy snow expected with a foot or more of snow accumulations possible. Light snow will have developed by Friday morning and the snow will become heavy during Friday afternoon and especially Friday night. The snow will taper off from west to east on Saturday. Snowfall rates of two to three inches per hour possible.

A winter storm watch is issued for the potential accumulating snow of six or more inches in a 12-hour period or eight or more inches in a 24-hour period.
