Freshman Barreira Scores Hat Trick in Foxboro Win Over Stoughton

It was a familiar story for the Foxboro boys’ soccer team against Stoughton. Like their last match, the Warriors found themselves down 1-0 early but the chances were building .

“We talked about not letting that happen but we know we’re able to come back unlike last year so we don’t get to worried about that,” Foxboro head coach Pat Nash said. “Getting our chances in the back of the net has been our big thing that we’ve been working on this year.”

The Warriors would get their chances in the 4-1 win over the Black Knights with help from  Anthony Barreira and a strong performance from the returning Brian Bortolotti.

“That’s a huge thing for him (Barreira) and he need to get going. We’re trying to get Bortolotti going too so once those guys get going we’re going to be tough,” Nash said.

Despite an early Stoughton goal by Lubensky Lucas, a hat trick from the freshman Barreira would respond late in the first half with Billy Antoine earning the first of his three assists.

In the 61st minute, turnover caused by Antoine found it’s way to Devante Teixeira inside the penalty area. While Stoughton goalkeeper Kyle Silverman was able to get his fingers on the ball, the deflection dribbled in near the left post to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead.

Barreira picked up his second and third goals in the 76th and 78th minutes to lock up a Foxboro win. The second goal came after Barreira took advantage of a bad clearance for an empty net goal and a pass from Antoine led to the freshman’s third goal of the game.

The Warriors improve to 5-4-4 and host Canton on Oct. 18 on Senior Night.
