Foxborough's Cunningham Part of New England Champion UMass-Lowell Relay Team

Foxborough's Shannon Cunningham, a junior, at UMass-Lowell, was part of the winning 4 x 400 relay team for UMass-Lowell.

 

Former Foxborough High standout Shannon Cunningham ran a leg on the winning 4 x 400 meter relay for the University of Massachusetts-Lowell River Hawks at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Track and Field Championship at MIT. Cunningham earned all-New England honors with the first place finish,

The relay team clocked a time of 3:46.68, a New England best. Cunningham led off the relay with a 56.5 second split. The team met the NCAA provision, but is ranked 22nd on the Division 2 list and probably won't make the cut for the NCAA Championship.

It was the third straight year, UMass-Lowell has won the relay title and Cunningham was a member for all three years.

UMass Lowell placed fifth overall and tops among Division II and III teams with 46 points. The University of Rhode Island won the team title with 106 points while New Hampshire finished runner-up with 73 points. Vermont (59) and UMass (48) took third and fourth.
