Foxborough Puts up Solid Effort But Falls Short to Attleboro

Attleboro gets a 3-1 win over the Foxborough Warriors.

It was a game of chances and opportunities. There were times where it seemed like the Foxborough Warriors could have made a goal instead of the Blue Bombardiers getting a good save.

“They made a couple great saves, it easily could have been 2-0 in the first half," said Warriors head coach Pat Nash.

Despite the chances, it would be Attleboro that would capitalize on their chances en route to a 3-1 win over the Warriors.

Scoring opportunities for both teams came early and often. The Warriors would strike first with a goal from Sawyer Fleck. Getting the ball inside the box, Fleck was able to get the ball quickly into the net during the fifth minute to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.

“He (Sawyer) just buried it in the right corner from what I could see. It was a great shot. It's a kid that can finish and he did a great job,” said Nash.

Fleck has been a critical part of the Warriors attack early on. With three goals and two assists to his name, Fleck has been apart of every Foxboro goal this season.

“We really need to find the ball to his feet to attack. He’s a special player. We’re lucky to have him,” said Nash

Foxboro attempted to add to their total but the Bombardiers kept finding ways to keep the ball out of the back of the net. Both Fleck and Brandon Fowler had point blank shots in front of the net but were denied after jumped in front of the goal when Attleboro goalkeeper Spenser Powell was drawn out of the net.

“He (Michael) was there twice for shots right at him, so that was big for us because if they had scored the game would have been over. They would of won,” said Attleboro coach Peter Pereira.

The Blue Bombardiers got the equalizer in the 26th minute after Derek Pereira scored from the far left to tie the game. It was a ball that initially looked like it was going to roll past the end line but Pereira was able to sneak it in the top of the net to tie the game.

A few minutes later the Warriors would find themselves with two more chances but nothing to show for them. Aiden Campbell was able to chase a ball down near the Attleboro goal to a near empty net but hit the cross bar to keep the score at 1-1.

Another chance for the Warriors came at the 30th minute when Foxborough came close to scoring off a free kick but Powell once again kept the ball out of the net with two saves. Both chances were huge for Foxboro and even bigger for an Attleboro team looking to break the tie.

The go ahead goal for Attleboro came in the 48th minute after Alain Laurent was able to shoot the ball a little too high for Warriors goalkeeper Nick Adair to get.

Down 2-1 the Warriors kept attacking with all they could. Brandon Fowler’s header in the 67th minute was stopped by a save by Powell that was just impressive as the shot. It was a big day for the junior goalie. Making save after save, Powell played a big part in the Attleboro win today.

“He gets his teammates going. He’s being doing a good job. He controls our back and his communication is great because it settles the kids down,” said Pereira.

The push over the edge for the Warriors came in the 69th minute after Machado Dominik was able to lob the ball into the Warriors’ net to give Attleboro a big 3-1 win over the Warriors.

“We needed that win. We’ve had a rough weekend and a rough week,” said Pereira.

It was a tough loss for a Warrior team that looked good on the field. Despite the loss, the Warriors showed they are capable of hanging with bigger schools with deeper teams.

“This is by far the best game I think we’ve played. I thought we really took it to them in the first half," said Nash.

After the loss, the Warriors find themselves at 1-3-0 while Attleboro is 2-2-1.

Next up for the Warriors will be a matchup with the Franklin Panthers. The Warriors will travel to Franklin this Wednesday September 21st for a 3:30 p.m. matchup. Attleboro will also be in action on Wednesday, as they travel to Sharon for a 3:45 p.m. matchup against the Eagles.
