Foxborough Offense Continues Hot Start in 2-0 Win Over Sharon

Foxborough Field Hockey puts its offense in high gear in win over Sharon.

In the end, it came down to who could get shots off inside the striking circle. Pushing the ball in front of the net, it was Foxborough who would dominate inside near the goal in what was otherwise a close game.

“I think it was a well played game between the 25s. Foxborough was pretty powerful inside the circle,” said Sharon head coach Peg Arguimbau.

The advantage would prove to be costly for the Eagles as Foxborough was able to defeat Sharon 2-0.

The difference in the game came from the multiple opportunities Foxborough was able to create near the net. Keeping Sharon at bay for most of the first half, Foxborough was able to get one past the Eagles with a little less than 3:45 left in the half. Katie Notarangelo was credited with the goal that got the Warriors on the board with the assist going to Meghan Fitton. Foxborough would take the 1-0 lead into the half.

The Warriors got a little extra insurance from Mary Beth Sweeney as she put the Warriors up 2-0 at 16:32 in the second half. Once again, rushing the striker’s circle, was a key aspect of Foxboro’s strategy today.

“You have to be in the circle to score and we did a good job moving the ball up the field," said Foxboro head coach Melissa Bordieri.

Despite the loss for Sharon, coach Arguimbau is looking at the positives coming out of the game.

“We did a much better job at changing the field today. We’ve always been on one side of the field and we’ve talked about that at practice and it worked today because we had played going both sides," she said. "Everyone was involved and we had some nice coverage on defense."

With the win Foxborough improves to 2-1, with all games being league play while Sharon is now 1-3 and 0-3 inside the Hockomock League.

Next up for Foxborough will be a visit to Attleboro. The Warriors will face the Blue Bombardiers on Monday Sept. 19 at 3:30pm. The Eagles will host King Philip High School on the 19that 3:30pm.
