Foxborough Men's Tennis Loses Matches 4-1 Against Norton

Boys' tennis suffers their first loss of the season.

Foxborough suffered a hard loss in their first match of the season against the Norton High boys’ tennis team. Norton dominated Foxborough, 4-1, Wednesday April 6.

The Warriors took today's match as a chance to see what they will need to do to get wins in the Hockomock League.

“We got to play smart aggressive,” said Foxborough coach Dan Damish after losing the first two double matches.

“Overall, a great win,” said Norton coach Cortney Greene. “Before we started playing matches, we lost four varsity seniors. I wasn’t sure how we would look. But seeing the guys in action, I’m seeing a lot of good things. We will be challenged by other TVL (Tri-Valley League) teams, but I think we will hold our own.”

Norton’s PJ Levesque defeated Malcolm Neville in the first singles match, 6-2, 5-7 and 6-4.

The Lancers’ Matt Sugar overcame Foxborough’s Dan Decker in the second singles match 6-3 and 6-4.

Foxborough’s only win, which was quite the battle, came from Pete Gallagher, who defeated Paul Southworth, 6-4, 3-6 and 6-4, in third singles.

In the first doubles, Lancers’ Drew Burke and Brian Ahern defeated Luke Schaaf and Roger Crocker, 6-2 and 6-1.

“We really haven’t practiced much with all these rainy days,” said Foxborough player Fabrice Louis-Letang, who lost the second doubles match with Tyler Aubuchon against Rob Southworth and Kolin Campbell, 6-0 and 6-0.

It was all smiles when Rob Southworth, Burke, Ahearn and Campbell were asked about the rest of the season.

“I feel pretty good about it,” Ahearn said.

Foxborough will have another opportunity to go for the win when they face Stoughton on Friday, April 8.
