Foxborough Boys' Lacrosse Continues Strong Play

Foxborough boys lacrosse comes out strong against North Attleboro.

Looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season against Framingham, Warriors coach Matt Noone had one request of his team: Come out strong.

“I asked the boys to come out and play hard at the beginning,” said Coach Noone.

Not only did the Warriors come out and play hard at the beginning, they played hard the entire game in an 18-3 blowout of the North Attleboro Red Rocketeers.

All season long, Coach Noone has been emphasizing the importance of controlling the possession game. If there was one game that was a textbook example of what Coach Noon was looking for, this was it. Not letting the Red Rocketeers get many touches in the 1st half, the Warriors quickly put goal after goal up on the scoreboard.

“It was good,” said Noone. “When you can possess the ball the other team can’t.”

Billy Roberts started the attack early on with an unassisted goal. His goal was followed up by a James Stather goal from the left. With North Attleboro unable to start anything of their own, Foxborough showed great patience in their shots. Going against a young and inexperienced defense, each Warriors goal had a basic strategy that was carried out to near perfection. Easily setting up the offense and geting guys right in front of the crease, Foxborough jumped out to an 8-0 lead by the end of the quarter. With 8 goals from  6 different players, Foxborough showed off the multiple scoring threats they had.

North Attleboro tried to come back in the 2nd quarter but Foxborough was simply too strong for them. Growing  Frustrated, several Red Rockerteers tried to rush in front of the net by themselves but Foxborough’s defense was too tight for anyone to simply walk in.

“I have a lot of problems with that," said North Attleboro Coach Kevin Young. “Kids get frustrated. They want to do it all themselves. Foxboro’s defense was nice and tight and solid so one kid can’t do it all….When they try to do it all your falling right into their defensive hands.”

Offensively, Foxborough continued to slam the ball into the net. Getting quick passes in front of the goal, the Warriors’ offense was simply too fast for a North Attleboro that could not handle the quick sticks of Foxborough.

Leading 11-1 at halftime, Foxborough took the chance to get players in who may not see a lot of game time. Despite the starters playing less time in the 2nd half,  Foxboro refused to let up and continued to attack the North Attleboro defense.

Starting the half with Billy Roberts 3rd goal of the game, Foxborough quickly followed that up with goals from Jake Hyland and Brian Donovan.

Even with the large deficit, the Red Rocketeers refused to quit. Realizing that no one person was going to break through the Foxboro defense, North Attleboro’s Reiffarth David delivered a quick pass to Dylan Estrella to make it 13-2 late in the 3rd quarter.

With the game ending quickly, North Attleboro fought hard but the Foxboro offense continued to fight back. Anthony Feritta picked up one of Foxboro’s 4 goals in the 4th quarter which saw some continue to patiently set off their offense and get goals with a quick pass near the net.

Despite some instances of quality play, Foxboro was simply too experienced and too much for the younger Red Rocketeers to handle. Billy Roberts led scoring for the Warriors with 3 goals and an assists. Connor Whalen and Brian Donovan both had 2 goals with Whalen also having 3 assists.

Foxboro will have a day off before their next opponent. They will travel to Sharon for a 3:30 matchup on Friday. In their previous matchup, Foxboro defeated Sharon 13-4.
