Foxborough Lacrosse Beats Oliver Ames, Remains Undefeated

The Foxborough Warrior boys dominate the OA Tigers winning 13-1.

Thursday’s contest between Foxborough High School and Oliver Ames was a tale of two completely different teams. The Warriors, who earned their fourth win in a row this season, as they defeated a young and inexperienced Tigers squad, 13-1.

“When you get dominated of course it’s demoralizing,” Oliver Ames head coach Fran Yung said after his team’s fourth loss of the season.

“Is it one of my more demoralizing [games I have coached]? It’s right up there, [but] Matt [Noone] is good [because] the integrity of lacrosse is well within him because he knows when to pull the horses.”

The Tigers practically admitted defeat after an early Cam Felix goal, which gave Foxborough an immediate, 1-0 lead with less than two minutes into the first quarter. The Warriors would then tack on a second goal nearly three minutes later, when Alex Pacitti beat the Tigers goaltender, A.J. Madden to make it, 2-0.

Yet, Oliver Ames did register one goal, which came halfway through the opening quarter when Ryan Hourihan scored an unassisted goal, but that would be their only score of the game.

Foxborough finished out the first quarter with five goals and added an additional three during the second quarter, which gave the Warriors a comfortable, 8-1 lead at halftime.

“At halftime, they knew what they had to do, they played within themselves and it was really relaxed though believe it or not. There’s other times where it’s crazy at the halftime, but today, it was real relaxed,” said Foxborough head coach Matt Noone.

“I said six more minutes before everyone gets in, so we put up five more goals and I pulled them all out [of the game].”

After Noah Cronin recorded Foxborough’s final goal of the game during the third quarter, Noone then watched his team’s reserves play some valuable minutes during the fourth quarter.

“I got to get everybody in and you worry about the boys not being focused for a game. Obviously, you want to put [your opponent] away and play like they’re capable of playing, which they did,” said Noone. “Everybody’s happy.”

Felix led the Warriors with three goals, while Connor Whalen and Jake Soccorso finished with two goals apiece.

The Tigers though will certainly remember this game when they face Foxborough again later this season, but Yung certainly feels this game was yet another valuable learning experience for his team.

“It’s been tough because we just don’t have the numbers like Foxborough,” said Yung. “It’s demoralizing from that point, but I look at day one [until] now, we’ve improved, we’ve improved and I’m hoping to get one win soon, but we’ll see what happens.”

The Warriors though will look to add another win against Franklin on Saturday, but rather than playing in their comfortable confines of the State School Field and travel to Gillette Stadium for a 1:00pm faceoff.

“Obviously the venue alone is definitely different than playing [at the State School Field],” said Noone. “The kids have waited their whole life to get on that field.”

“Franklin is obviously a team that we have to beat to do what we want to do and wherever we play it’s like the movie, “Hoosiers,” still the same size, goals are still six by six, there ten against our ten and whatever happens after that will happen, but we’ll take care of business.”
