Foxborough High Wrestlers Edge Out Oliver Ames

Warriors put ninth one into the win column.

Pins were a plenty when the Oliver Ames wrestling team hooked up with Foxborough Monday night in Foxborough.

Every match, but two was decided by pins, but it was Foxborough who ended up with more than the Tigers with a 48-31 win. The loss dropped the Tigers to 7-7 on the season.

“That happens when you have seniors and freshmen in the lineup,” said Foxborough head coach Jim Fraser, whose team honored former Warrior standout Jeff Parker, who died at 25 last May before the match. “The seniors going to go out and get the pins for you.”

Foxborough improved to 9-5-1 with win over the Tigers.

“I knew it was going to be a close match,” said OA head coach Adam Pomella. “We match up pretty well against them.”

Pomella was pinning the loss on himself, because of a lineup decision. Both teams were matching the lineups to get the best possible change for the victory.

“I made a mistake,” he said. “This one is on me.”

Fraser knows that can happen when you have a team who relies on strategy rather than just dominating the match.

“We do a lot more coaching this days,” said Fraser, who has had squads, who just rolled over opponents. “We’re better coaches these days and we have to coach more. We have scout opponents and I’m always looking at these papers to see we match up. This is a lot more work.”

Foxborough recorded pins from Vic Avery, heavyweight, Red Dorman, 103, Tim Dure, 112, Eric Saltis, 130, Bryan Dorman, 135, John Litteg, 152, Dan Gallagher, 160, and Marcus Ayassa, 171.

OA got their wins from Matt Harding, 189, by pin, Zach Mckeen, 215, by pin, Max Jacobs, 119, by pin, Kevin Kansachi, 125, by pin, George Cowan, 140, 11-2 decision, Eric Brugnoi-Ensign, 145, 3-2.
