Foxborough High School Boys Golf Team Off to a Good Start

The Foxborough Warriors picked up their first win against Stoughton.

The Foxboro Warriors golf team got off to a good start Thursday afternoon with a win against the Stoughton Black Knights in their season opener. Despite a cloudy forecast and a light drizzle, the Warriors were able to get by with a 177-201 win over the Black Knights.

It was a shaky win for the Warriors as the team score of 177 was a bit high for the Warriors. Senior Nick Dowling scored 47 in 9 holes of play while Jake Dorman scored a 43. Marcus Baugh led Stoughton with a 47, while Michael Milavec and Hunter Goodrich ended the day with a 51. Despite the high score, the match was seen as a good opener for a team with many inexperienced players.

“We’re looking to be more in the 160s if we want to compete for the league championship this year but it's a good start. We’ll take the win,” said Warriors coach Shawn Seybert.

With 4 players competing on the varsity level for the first time, the Warriors had to deal with a team that may have been a bit more nervous that usual for the opener.

“One of the kids said his nerves didn’t go away until the 4th hole,” said Seybert. “There were 2 freshmen that have never played in a high school golf match and two others that have played in some exhibitions but not in official matches.”

The win gives the Warriors a 1-0 record to start the season while Stoughton is 0-1.

Next up for the Black Knights will be their home opener against the Attleboro Blue Bombardiers. Tee time is scheduled for 3:10pm on Thursday September 8th at the Easton Country Club.

The Warriors will remain at home on Thursday and host the Canton Bulldogs. The Bulldogs have yet to play this season but were 3rd in last year’s Hockomock Championship. Tee time is set for 3:15 at the Foxboro Country Club.
