Foxborough Girls Tennis Team Remains Undefeated

Foxborough dominated the Hockomock League Tuesday with a 3-2 win over Stoughton.

The undefeated Foxborough girls tennis team continued to dominate the Hockomock League Tuesday afternoon with a 3-2 win over the Stoughton Black Knights.

Once again the singles matches went 3-0 in favor of the Warriors. Alana Prinos, Hallie Young, and Emma Prinos all went 6-0, 6-0 against their opponents. Never looking out of control, all 3 players looked comfortable keeping their individual undefeated streaks alive.

“They call them the big 3 because they’ve stepped up in a big way for the team. We rely on them a lot,” said Warriors head coach Peter Prinos.

In the doubles matches, Stoughton took both matches against the Warriors. Val Szeto and Danielle Durham took the first doubles match over Chelsea Miller and Gretchen Schaaf 1-7 and 6-7(4-7) while Taylor Goodrich and Vicky Tran defeated Foxboro’s Megan Carter/Caroline Muise 6-4, 6-1.

In what was the closet match of the day, the team of Szeto and Durham battled against Miller and Schaaf to avoid a 3rd set against the Warriors’ doubles team. Coming back from deficits of 4-3, 5-4, and 6-5 in the 2nd set, Szeto and Durham put Miller and Schaaf away in the tiebreaker to end the day on a high note for the Black Knights

“I thought they(Szeto and Durham) played well. Val was very good at net. She put a lot of balls away. Danielle hit a lot of balls across court which enabled Val to hit nice solid volleys for winners,” said Stoughton coach Bill Donovan.

Despite winning both doubles matches, it was not enough for a Stoughton team that was overpowered by 3 of the top singles players in the league. While Stoughton did not get the win, Coach Donovan is looking at the positives that came out of their matches,

“Foxboro is solid. They haven’t loss a singles match so to get 3-2 result against them is a good result,” said Donovan.

With the win, Foxboro improves to 11-0. Despite the undefeated record, Coach Peter Prinos still sees room for improvement for his team especially with his doubles teams.

“We would like to get more balance with our doubles and that’s what we’re kind of looking for,” said Prinos.

While Foxboro was unable to win a doubles match, Coach Prinos did mention that he "saw improvements out of the doubles teams.”

“They’re trying and there are some improvements. We’re working on the improvements in practice and they’re starting to do some things but today they came up on the short end but I was pleased with the way they tried,” said Prinos.

Next up for the Warriors will be a match against Canton. Last time the Warriors played the Bulldogs, Foxboro won 4-1. Match time is set for Wednesday at 3:30 at Canton High School. The Black Knights will also be back on the tennis court tomorrow against Norwood. Match time is set for 3:30 at Norwood High School.
