Foxborough Girls Soccer Loses Rainy Game To King Philip

Foxborough is defeated by King Philip, 3-0.

Rainy day and messy conditions led to a rough Friday afternoon for the Foxboro Warriors. Giving up two free kicks in the first half, Foxboro found themselves on the losing end of a 3-0 defeat to the King Philip Warriors.

King Philip got on the scoreboard early with a goal from Malorie Knowlton. Coming in from the right side, Knowlton was able to drill it past Foxboro to take a 1-0 lead in the 8th minute.

Foxboro had a couple of opportunities to come back but King Philip was excellent in denying Foxboro any chance in getting a shot off. Facing a tight defense left Foxboro with few options offensively.

“Today they did a nice job of marking up tight, minimizing mistakes,” said King Philip coach Greg Massotti of his defense.

King Philip was able to put the game away quickly with a couple of goals off of free kicks. Jane Bingel netted away two goals off of set pieces with the first one coming in the 15th minute and the second one coming in the 29th minute. Bingel, who does not regularly take free kicks for King Philip, made the most of her chances against Foxboro.

“I just felt Jane had it today and gave her the opportunity,” said Massotti.

Taking the first free kick from right of the top of the box, Bingel banged in her first goal after banking the ball off the left post to give King Philip a 2-0 lead. Her second goal came from the top of the box once again but from the left end. A simple boot to the top of the net was enough to give King Philip a 3-0 lead.

Foxboro tried to come back in the second half, but a good goalie in net and the struggle to find shots was too much for them.

“We just have to improve our shot quality. We can’t shoot it right at the goalie. We made her job easy and that’s not we’re suppose to be doing,” said Foxboro assistant coach Brittany Jamieson.

Even with few shots coming at her, it was not an easy day for King Philip goalkeeper Jill Valente. Trying to keep a slippery ball out of the net in the rain can make a routine save into a more difficult one.

“She had a lot of good saves. Some tough ones that I thought especially on a wet surface that could of skidded and gone in,” said Massotti.

With the win, King Philip improves to 2-4-2 overall and 2-3-1 in league play while Foxboro is 0-6-0 with all games being league play.

Foxboro will be back on the road for their next game. They will travel to Oliver Ames High School for a 5:30pm match on Sept. 26. King Philip will also be on the road on the 26th as they face Attleboro High School. Match time is set for 3:30pm.
