Foxborough Girls Lose to OA, Still One Away From Tournament

Tigers spoiled Warriors' Senior Night with their 12th win of the season.

Going into the fourth quarter, Tuesday night's Oliver Ames-Foxborough girls' basketball game was pretty much up in the air. OA was holding to a slim 44-40 lead, which got even slimmer when Warrior senior Leigh Tacey made two free throws to cut the lead to two right at the start of the final frame.

After that Oliver Ames held Foxborough to just seven points, while scoring 18 themselves for a 62-49 win during the Warriors' Senior Night in Foxborough. The win improved to the Tigers to 12-5 on the year. The Davenport champions will be playing Kelley-Rex winner Mansfield in the Hockomock crossover game later this week.

"We showed a lot of composure," said Oliver Ames head coach Elaine Clement-Holbrook. "That was our second road win against tough teams as we beat Canton on the road (last Friday.)

"We want to play the whole game like we did in the fourth quarter."

If they do that, the Tigers, who went 8-0 in their division, are going to be a tough draw in Division 2 South.

Now, Foxborough is just trying to join them in the postseason. The 9-7 Warriors have been stuck on the one win they need for the tourney for the last two weeks. They will now hope to get in the crossover game against Franklin or North Attleboro.

"We played hard tonight," said Foxborough head coach Sarah Behn. "(In the fourth quarter) we ran out of steam. They are more athletic and faster."

The Warriors had trouble stopping Oliver Ames' Caitlyn Abela inside and guard Nicole Bostic outside. Abela finished with 20 points, while Bostic had 19. Asia Mitchell, who played solid on offense and defense, ended up with 12.

It was Bostic, who broke the Warriors' heart with three 3-pointers, banking the ball over the backboard.

"We were talking about that in the locker room," said Clement-Holbrook with a laugh "She didn't call glass."

Kayleen Whall led the way for Foxborough with 19 points, while Tacey added 15.

The Warriors are now hoping to join the Tigers in the postseason.

"I like our chances," said Behn.
