Foxborough Girls' Basketball Closes Regular Season with 'Lucky Win Number 13' on Senior Night

It wasn’t pretty, but the Foxborough High School girls’ basketball team, led by its seven seniors, gritted out a 46-30 victory over Canton on senior night.

“It was nice we could get everybody in there so everybody could feel part of the win tonight,” said Foxborough head coach Lisa Downs. “It wasn’t a pretty win but we’ll take it. Lucky number 13 I guess.”

Downs said senior night can often bring a different type of chemistry to the game but Foxborough was able to overcome some sloppy play early to close out a 16-point victory over two-win Canton.

“The seniors are feeling a little nostalgia and it’s not your typical basketball game that you see on a Friday night,” Downs said. “We definitely had some sloppiness out there and we had some different tandems on the court but they all contributed something to the win.”

Two senior captains, Ashley Snyder and Andrea Marcotte led an offense that really got going in the second quarter after a sluggish first quarter that ended in a 10-10 tie.

Snyder, who saw little action in the first quarter, came off the bench to score eight points in the second quarter to spark the Warriors to a 24-18 halftime lead.

From there, it was all Foxborough as the Warriors rediscovered the smothering, shut down defense the team has been known for this season. Foxborough expanded its lead to 12 (38-26) through three quarters and closed out the fourth on an 8-4 run to close the regular season with a 46-30 victory.

Snyder finished with a game-high 12 points and Marcotte added 10 for the Warriors.

FHS junior Danielle Roma (10 points) and sophomore Katherine Tamulionis (nine points) were also key contributors on offense.

Foxborough will participate in the annual Warrior Classic at Foxborough High School on Monday against Lunenburg at 6:30 p.m. On the next night, FHS will either play in the Warrior Classic championship or consolation game.

“Hopefully we will play the winner of Ursuline-Hopkinton on Tuesday night,” Downs said. “We do have a lot of things we need to tune up in the next week or so it’s going to be beneficial to play in those two games.

Foxborough Honors its Seniors

Prior to tip-off, fans, family and friends recognized Foxborough’s seven seniors –Andrea Marcotte, Kayleigh Marino, Ashley Snyder, Allie Peter, Danielle Hayes, Ally Perry and Nicole Doherty – on Senior Night.

Of the seven seniors, four scored:

• Marcotte (10 points)
• Marino (3 points)
• Snyder (12 points)
• Peter (2 points)

“Having seven seniors on the team definitely has meant a lot to the team this year,” Downs said. “Seeing the leadership we’ve had on the bench and on the court, they’ve meant a lot to the girls on the team this year. … The seniors are all in their own way unique and part of what makes this team function the way we have been able to this season.”
