Foxborough Football to Face Oliver Ames in Davenport Showdown

Foxborough football will be traveling to Oliver Ames Friday night for a key Davenport match.

Coming off a the Oliver Ames football team returns to Muscato Stadium for its first game in the Davenport Division Friday night against Foxborough at 7 p.m.

In arguably one of the most important games of the year, the team is billing this as an "orange out" where the first 250 students will recieve a free OA football t-shirt.

Foxborough, coached by Jack Martinelli (30th season), is 3-2 on the year (2-1 Hock, 1-0 Davenport) and is coming off a 29-21 victory over Franklin last week. The Warriors have won two straight.

Offensively, the Warriors, who average 22.6 points per game, are led by wide receiver Greg Stamatov, who’s five touchdown receptions are tied for first in the league, along with quarterback Nick Sestito (seven touchdowns) and running backs Jeff McPherson and Kivone Howard.

Despite giving up 20 points per game, the Foxborough defense has been solid. Paul Nader, one of the team’s defensive leaders, scored on an 11-yard fumble recovery in last week’s victory.

Although OA played sloppy in last week’s loss – especially defensively – quarterback Jared Schneider and runningback Sam Langston provided solid efforts, each tallying a second-half touchdown.

Despite the subpar effort last week, OA remains one of the top defensive units in the Hock. The Tigers allow just just 9.2 points per game, second to North Attleboro (8.2 points per game). Even with some improvements offensively, OA is seventh in the league in that category, tallying 92 points in five games (an average of 18.4 per game).

Foxborough has won three straight against OA, including last year’s 16-3 triumph. Head coach Jim Artz, a former Foxborough assistant, came away with a 21-20 victory in his second season in 2007, which was also the last time OA defeated the Warriors.

By Friday, we’ll know how each team stands in the small division.
