Foxborough Football One Step Closer to New Division

Under the new Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association football playoffs, Foxborough will be in Division 4. The MIAA Board of Directors will vote on the plan June 10. That is the final step the plan has to go through.

 

One step needs to be taken for the new football playoff proposal to be approved, according to a report in the Boston Herald.

Thursday, the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Management Committee committee voted 10-4 in favor of the plan that would create expanded playoffs and a state champion in six divisions.

Now the final hurdle for the proposal is being approved by the MIAA Board of Directors June 7.

By adding a new playoff format with more teams qualifying, a different divisional set-up. The goal is to have state champions in all six divisions instead of just the  East, and Central-West champions. The six finals would be a Gillette Stadium. Foxborough would be in Division 4 South with fellow Hockomock League members, Canton and Sharon, and the Tri-Valley Leagie's Norton, Westwood, Holliston and Medway. The Bay State League's Dedham would also be in the mix.

Foxborough would keep its Thanksgiving Day rivalry with Mansfield under the new plan.
