Foxborough Boys' Basketball Beats Dover-Sherborn
It's on to the next round for the Foxborough High boys' basketball team after beating Dover-Sherborn Friday night.
The Foxborough High boys' basketball team survived a last-second scare and will now be moving on to play at No. 1 seed Wareham Wednesday night in a 7 p.m. game.
The Warriors went over to Dover-Sherborn Monday night, knocking off the Raiders, 52-50, in the Division 3 South preliminary game.

Unfortunately for Dover-Sherborn, that was not the reality for senior captain Matt Heinlein who hoisted up a three-pointer with the Raiders down, 52-50, in the waning moments of the game.

The ball hit the rim and the buzzer sounded and the Raiders' season was over.
Both teams played tough, physical basketball and it will be the Warriors moving on.
“I’d have Matt take that again," said D-S head coach Rick Grady. "In a lot of ways, he’s been the heart and soul of our team. A kid that is without a doubt the toughest kid on our team and obviously, I was hoping that it would go in. But, good look at the basket, and Matt shot it with confidence, it just didn’t fall."
The Warriors kept the D-S offense at bay with solid defense and rebounding.
“It hurt, and neither team is particularly big but they did a nice job, especially in the second half of going to get the offensive boards," said Grady. "Which is going to lead to fouls or easy buckets or just longer possession time and when you’re struggling to score it just makes it that much tougher.”
Foxborough head coach CJ Neely said that his team made rebounding a priority heading into the second half.
“The guards especially, I think the guards crashed the boards well in the end," said Neely. "We did not do a good job of that in the first half. We really made an emphasis on it in the second half."
The Raiders got burned by allowing Foxborough's guards to drive to the basket and get layups.
However, it was senior captain Tim O'Halloran's shooting from beyond the arc that proved even more costly for D-S.
“A sophomore stepping up in a big stage. Made all the big shots in the fourth quarter, he was not afraid at all,” Neely said. “He stepped up big tonight.”
O'Halloran led all scorers with 21 points in the game including hitting three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and four in the second half.
“We didn’t do things that tournament teams do to move on. We turned the ball over a lot. We missed free throws. And that will kill you and that’s kind of what happened for us today,” Grady said.
D-S was led by senior captain Chris Flight who scored 16 points and junior Steve Alessandro who had 15 points.
“He was great," Grady said of Alessandro. "Steve was awesome in just kind of getting some offensive rebound put backs, he had probably two or three buckets where he drove the baseline. He played very good defense.”
Foxborough got solid outputs from senior captain Jeff McPherson and junior Nolan Clagg who scored 10 points apiece.
“I give my kids a lot of credit. They hung in there and we didn’t play our best but we still had a chance to win it,” said Grady.
D-S missed 8 out of 12 free throws in the game.
