For a first game on a new field, it couldn't have gone any better.
Yesterday afternoon, the new turf field at Foxboro High School was open for business with the field hockey team taking the honors for hosting the first game.
Behind three goals and an assist from senior captain Lindsay Venuto, the Warriors beat the Sharon Eagles 4-0 on Senior Day to finish the regular season with a record of 11-4-3.
A scoreless opening 14:30 was broken when Venuto was able to position herself behind the Sharon goalie near the right post. Finding the ball bouncing her way, the senior earn the first goal on the new field with Callie Santos earning the assist.
Venuto also had a role in the only goal not scored by her. With less that 14 minutes to play in the first half, great teamwork off a short corner saw the ball go from Jackie Touzos at the top of the circle to Venuto from seven yard away. While Venuto got the shot off, Meg Fitton was able to knock it in on a deflection with 13:59 left in the half.
The Warriors would take a 3-0 lead into half-time after Venuto scored off the rebound of a Santos shot with 6:09 left in the half.
Touzos would find Venuto with 20:05 left in the game to complete the hat trick.
The Warriors will find out who they will play in their first tournament game when the pairings are announced on Oct. 28.
