Foxborough Girls Basketball Defeated By Stoughton

There were times where it looked like Stoughton was one or two shots away from putting away Foxborough. With the Black Knights getting comfortable leads for most of the night, the Warriors could of easily given up and mentally moved on. Instead, the Warriors put themselves in a position to win by two with less than a minute to play.

A couple of tough whistles later, the Black Knights were ahead by six.

The Warriors(1-1) tried to complete the comeback but fell to the Black Knights(1-0) 52-48.

Foxborough initially tried to mix things up by playing a full court man to man defense but were forced to switch to a half court trap after the Black Knights offense found little resistance. The defense gave Stoughton many opportunities for quick putbacks to extend the lead to as much as nine.

“They were just getting way too many opportunities offensively. They missed their first and get their second and third opportunities and one of them was going to go in,” said Foxborough head coach Lisa Downs.

Helping the Black Knights get those chances was center Nicole Daniels who the Warriors could not defend or find an answer to.

“They had no one to really defend her and we really needed to keep exploiting that and I think the kids did a good job,” said Stoughton head coach Janet Sullivan.

An aggressive Warriors’ defense only helped Daniels at times as she drew multiple three point play opportunities under the basket. The junior finished the game with a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds.

“She let everyone know that she is going to be a force in the Hockomock tonight. She had a great game inside but credit to her teammates who were feeding her the ball all night,” said Sullivan.

The Warriors started the second half with a 7-2 run led by D.J. Quadrozzi to get to within two early on but the Black Knights quickly stretched the lead out.

With time tickting away the Warriors got a critical three pointer from Jamie Ballou to get to within two with 47 seconds left. It was only seconds later the focus was on Ballou again but not because of a great play or a timely steal. The young sophomore’s aggressive attempts to create a turnover resulted in a personal foul and a technical foul to give the Black Knights four free throws and possession of the ball.

With all four shots from the charity stripe made, the Warriors quickly ran out of time as they fell by four.

Quadrozzi led the Warriors in scoring with 15 points and 3 three-pointers. The senior captain was a threat all night from the outside as she helped keep the Warriors in the contest.

“Her shots when it’s on, its great,”sSaid Downs. 

Ally Perry also had 7 points and 9 assists for the Warriors. Jamie Ballou scored 10 points including 2 three-pointers.

Chrystal Holland scored 10 points for the Black Knights and Katherine Chlus scored 7 points.

Before the game, Foxborough High School welcomed back 2010 graduate and girls’ basketball alumni Kristin Hoffman to officially induct her into the 1,000-point club. Hoffman, who currently plays at Framingham State University, scored 1,056 points between 2006-2010 as a member of the Warriors.

“She’s just one of those kind people that’s nice to everybody and I want all these girls to see what she’s doing now playing in college,” said Downs of Hoffman.

The Warriors will host Canton on Dec. 20th at 6:30 and the Black Knights will travel to Franklin on the 20th for a 6:30 tipoff.
