Foxboro Football Falls Flat in 37-6 Loss to Oliver Ames

In the opening quarter between the Foxboro Warriors and the Oliver Ames Tigers, it looked like a defensive struggle was building up with neither team able to score in the first 11 minutes.

23 Oliver Ames second quarter points later, it was clear who the better team was. With the Oliver Ames offense clicking and the Warriors' failure to gain momentum on either side of the ball, the Tigers picked up an important 37-6 divisional win over Foxboro.

“The opportunities we had to get on the scoreboard early we squandered and they are a good football team so we had to make sure we got some points and we didn’t do that,” Foxboro head coach Jack Martinelli said. “They outplayed us from that point on.”

Led by multi-talented QB Nick Cidado, Oliver Ames started the second quarter marching down the field with help from a 28-yard pass to Cooper Johnson at the Warriors 35-yard line. The pass was later followed up by a third and five on the 30-yard line that saw Cidado run for 17-yards. Running back Matt Berksza capped off the OA drive with a 13-yard run for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was successful to make it 8-0 with 7:09 left in the half.

The Tigers wasted little time getting the ball back, recovering a Keeyon Neal fumble around midfield to set up their second scoring drive of the second quarter.

Finding Andrew Callachan in the end zone, a 14-yard pass from Cidado was enough for another Oliver Ames touchdown. The two-point conversion was good after Mike Ferrara was able to find Johnson while being tackled.

Turnovers continued to hurt Foxboro and stall any momentum. After an 11-yard run by Luc Valenza to the OA 42-yard line, an interception by Nolan Rogers to Jake Fitzgerald returned the ball to the Tigers and led to a 33-yard touchdown pass to Berksza. After the extra point, the Tigers would take a 23-0 lead into the half.

The Warriors were able to force Oliver Ames to punt on their opening drive on the second half but could not get anything going themselves on offense. A punt to the OA 12-yard line gave the Tigers poor field position with less than six minutes in the third quarter.

The Tigers quickly moved up the field with a 57-yard pass to Franklin Holgate down to the Foxboro 10-yard line. Cidado would make it a 30-0 game with a nine-yard touchdown rush and a successful extra point.

Foxboro’s lone score would come on a fourth and seven at the Oliver Ames 25-yard line with Balazs Busznyak bringing in a reception for a touchdown. The failed two-point conversion cut the lead to 30-6 after the third quarter.

A final Oliver Ames score game with 7:44 left in the came when backup QB John McMillan scored on a keeper after three attempts. The extra point capped off the 37-6 win for the Tigers.

The Warriors are back home next week against Sharon while Oliver Ames will travel to Stoughton.
