Foxboro Boys' Basketball Falls 45-43 in Thriller to Sharon

With a fast pace, Friday's Sharon-Foxboro boys' basketball game at some points had more in common with a track meet than a basketball game. As much as Foxboro tried to keep up with the quick Sharon Eagles, the Warriors suffered a heartbreaking 45-43 loss at Sharon High School after an evening where no lead was safe and the speed never let up.

With a slim 3-2 lead midway through the first quarter, the Warriors were able to pull slightly ahead thanks to the defense of Tim O'Halloran (4 points) near half court. The Foxboro senior was able to pick off a pass from the fast moving Sharon offense for a quick bucket to make it a 5-2 game with 4:35 to go in the first quarter.

O'Halloran was able to pull off a similar play with 1:10 to go in the opening quarter, intercepting a Brian Mukasa pass near mid-court for an easy layup that gave Foxboro an 11-7 lead after the opening quarter.

In one of the few dominate runs of the games, the Eagles opened the second quarter on a 11-0 run that saw Sharon get second and third chance points down low and a pair of big three-point shots from Jordan Mello-Klein (10 points).

Mike Zola gave Sharon their first lead of the game with a three point play early in the second quarter. Two back to back three-pointers from James Fritzson (17 points) and Mello-Klein quickly turned an one point lead into a seven point lead with five minutes left in the half.

Under the basket, Foxboro's Cam Seeley (13 points) was able to give the smaller Eagles trouble with his rebounding ability especially during the Warriors' third quarter rally that saw Foxboro take a one-point lead later in the quarter. A late three by Fritzson and a buzzer beater from the outside by Mello-Klein pushed the lead back to five with a quarter to play.

Down by five with 2:42 to play, a turnaround jumper from 15 feet by Seeley cut the Sharon lead to three and two free throws from Derek Gilreath (4 points) made it a one point game with 2:14 to play.

Down by one with one last chance to win and 5.9 seconds on the clock, Justin Zupanick (5 points) tried to put the ball on the hoop for Seeley but the point bank shot by the Foxboro junior bounced off the rim and into the hands of Sharon's Eric Kushner whose trip to the free throw line with .2 seconds left gave the Eagles the win.

Foxboro returns to action on Dec. 23 at home against Southeastern.
