Devin McCourty Joins Amendola, Other Patriots in Pledge to Donate to Boston Marathon Victims

New England Patriots defensive back Devin McCourty says he will donate $100 per tackle, $200 per interception to Boston Marathon relief efforts.

The New England Patriots continue to rally around the city of Boston in the wake of Monday’s tragedy through pledges to help the victims of the Marathon bombings.

On Wednesday, another New England Patriot announced he plans to use the upcoming NFL season as a way to raise funds for the victims of Monday’s deadly attacks.

Defensive back Devin McCourty announced on Twitter he will join new teammate Danny Amendola in using personal statistics as a way to donate to Marathon victim relief efforts.

“Like Amendola I will donate $100 for each tackle made and $200 for every [interception] made in 2013-14 season to the victims of the Boston bombing - (D-Mac),” McCourty said via his Twitter handle, @McCourtyTwins.

On Monday, Amendola pledged via Twitter he would donate $100 for every pass he catches in 2013-14 to “whatever Boston Marathon Relief Fund there is” and $200 for any dropped pass.

Meanwhile, New England Patriots defensive lineman Vince Wilfork has organized a donation fund through his Vince Wilfork Foundation.

To donate to the Vince Wilfork Foundation fund for the Boston Marathon victims, text VINCE to the number 50555. Directions will follow your text message and you will be able to donate $10 to the Vince Wilfork Foundation.

“If we get 1,000 people to donate, the foundation will donate an additional $10,000 to help those affected by the Boston bombings,” the Wilfork Foundation said via Twitter. “This will go from now until the end of the month. Please help us help Boston.”

On Tuesday, efforts. The New England Patriots and New England Revolution Charitable Foundations will collect donations online, with funds earmarked to assist with victim recovery. Donations can be made at Patriots.com/donate or RevolutionSoccer.net/donate (please note “Boston Marathon” in field provided).

“We are grieving for the victims of this senseless act,” said Patriots and Revolution owner Robert Kraft. “It is not lost on us that this tragedy occurred on Patriots Day, at an event where our own staff and their families were participating, and where thousands of runners were raising money for charities with which we are associated either through our Foundation, our alumni or our friends. Our focus is on helping those in need and beginning the healing process. We hope by matching donations we will encourage more people to give.”

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Tom Menino announced the formation of The One Fund Boston, Inc. as the official relief fund to help those “most affected by the tragic events that occurred in Boston on April 15.”
