Baseball: Foxborough Makes Big Comeback to Get Win

Down 4-0 after the 1st inning, Foxborough made a comeback winning 8-5 over Boston Latin Academy.

Warriors coach Billy Sittig wasn’t going to let his team stay behind after Boston Latin Academy an early lead. Down 4-0 after the 1st inning, Sittig called upon his team to come play and play harder.

“I told them that we needed to compete a lot harder. I didn’t see them playing very hard in the 1st inning. Latin Academy took advantage of our inability to play the game,” said Sittig.

The pep talk must of worked since Foxborough came roaring back to get an 8-5 win against the Dragons.

“They battled through. We put on some good at bats starting in probably the 3rd inning,” said Coach Sittig. “We were better at the plate and we stated to make some plays in the field but it was mostly our approach at the plate. We stayed with it regardless of the score and we got some positives out of it.”

The 3 run inning to get the Warriors back in the game exposed a bad habit for the Dragons. Getting out to strong starts followed by poor results, Boston Latin Academy has let many teams back into the game.

“This has been a trend for us all season,” said Dragons coach Anthony Bernazzani. “We’re just giving the other team runs. We’re walking guys, we’re making errors in crucial situations and we’re just letting guys on base.”

Even after losing the lead, Boston Latin Academy would not go down without a fight. Finley Matthews scored during a Kevin Moran ground out to give the Dragons a 5-4 lead in the top of the 4th.  The Warriors would quickly end the inning with the next batter and would tie the game in the bottom of the 4th to make it 5-5.

Taking advantage of a throwing error during an attempted pickoff, Brendan Smith was able to score to tie the game once again at 5. An RBI triple would get Nick Tredo home. Nolan Clagg’s RBI single would make it an 8-5 game. With 3 runs in 3 at bats in a row, the Warriors took control of the game and the win against Boston Latin Academy.

Clagg would lead the way for the Warriors. Going 2-2 with a RBI, a run and 2 stolen base. Nick Tredo also went 2-2 with a double and a run. On the mound, TJ Notarangelo and Brandon Folwer kept the Warriors in the game with a combined 9 strikeouts and 3 walks.

“He(TJ) battled,” said Coach Sittig. “He kept us in it and Fowler came in at the end and shut the door.”

Foxborough will have Friday-Sunday off but will host Stoughton on Monday.  Game time is get for 3:30 at Foxborough High School.
