2011 Foxborough Boys Soccer Preview

The Warriors are looking to pickup their attack and increase their offensive presences.

Last year was the type of year that no team wants to have. Despite going 1-10-7, the boys’ soccer team of Foxboro High is looking forward. With nowhere to go but up, the team is focusing on stepping up to the challenge of turning the program around.

“The team has really changed its entire attitude. It really has worked extremely hard in the off-season and really shows that they want to get back on track and in the win column,” said Warriors soccer coach Pat Nash. “They are a close-knit group and really support one another on and off the field.”

Losing a large group of seniors has forced the young team to step up and take leadership roles. The challenge has brought the team together and has put players in positions they are not use to.

“We have some guys playing some different positions that they are working hard to learn. We also have some inexperience from a few guys at the varsity level but these guys are doing a nice job jumping in and getting their feet wet.” Said Nash

Led by senior captains Sawyer Fleck and Dan Adair, the Warriors are looking to pickup the attack and increase their offensive presences.

“He (Sawyer) does a great controlling the ball up top and getting players around him into the play and Dan Adair is another who really takes over in the midfield and can really dominate play when he is on his game.” Said Nash.

Providing support for Fleck and Adiar will be striker Andrew Geffers and midfielder Brandon Fowler.

The Warriors will also be relying on junior midfielder Brian Ellard who Nash thinks is due to break out this season.

“He (Brian) is a quick, aggressive player that can really get into the attack,” said Nash.

The schedule for Foxboro will continue to be tough. With games against the South Sectional champions Canton and Attleboro from the Kelly-Rex division, the season will be a challenge for Foxboro. Not that Coach Nash is counting his team out.

“The underdog of the division is probably Foxboro. We lost a lot of seniors and have a lot of young guys stepping up. The team seems to be doing well taking on this role and really looking to be competitive this year,” said Nash.

The Warriors will open their season at home on Friday September 9th against the Stoughton Black Knights at Ahern Field at 3:30pm.
