2011 Foxborough Boy's Golf Preview

Expectations are high for the Foxboro High School Golf team.

After a third place finish at the State championships, expectations are high for the Foxborough High School Golf team. After losing their three top scorers, the Warriors find themselves with a mix of experienced players and youth competitors going into the season.  The success of the team will fall mostly on team captains Nick Dowling, Matt Laracy and Jake Dorman. The three seniors will be expected to set a positive example and lead the team.

“The three captains are core of the team,” said coach Shawn Seybert. “We will count on them to use their experience to anchor the team. Each of them have been on the team for three years and have lots of experience in matches and the MIAA State Tournaments.”

Nick Dowling is expected to especially break out this season.

“Nick has a great swing and has the potential to score low with some consistent putting and ball striking,” said Seybert.

With a young and inexperienced team it will be up to the captains to lead the way and help the younger members of the team get the hang of varsity. The mix of experience and younger players is a mix that coach Seybert hopes leads to success.

“We have a solid core of experienced players who have been through a lot of competition. We also have some younger players coming in who will have the chance to shine,” said Seybert.

While the varsity players will be use to the courses and the expectations of the team, it may take the younger players a little bit to adjust.

“Some of the younger players will not have the advantage of knowing some of the golf courses we will travel to,” said Seybert.

The race for the division league title as usual will be a tight race. Mansfield, Franklin, and KP are all tough clubs out of the Kelly-Rex Division while Sharon is being seen as the early favorite in the Davenport Division. Foxboro will also have to face North Attleboro and Canton who are known for their tough home courses.

Despite the mix of youth and experienced combined with a tough league schedule, the expectations are still high and nothing less than their best will be acceptable.

“I expect a lot from the players who will put on the Warrior uniform and the players know we have a lot of pride in the FHS golf program. We will compete to the best of our ability and see what results that will bring,” said Seybert.

The Warriors will open up the season Wednesday September 7th at Foxboro Country Club against Stoughton at 3:15pm
