Will There Be School in Foxborough Friday?

An ocean storm has brought more snow than originally expected in Foxborough Thursday, causing for a frustrating and messy morning commute throughout the area.

Foxborough schools, however, were able to open without delay and remained in session without an early release, according to Superintendent of Schools Debra Spinelli.

“We were able to open on time because the accumulation was not significant in the very early morning hours,” Spinelli said. “We get regular weather forecast updates from the National Weather Service for our area, but this storm is very changeable and to some extent we just have to wait and see how it evolves.”

Spinelli said all after-school and evening activities scheduled for Thursday had been canceled due to the continuous snowfall but no decision has been made for Friday as of Thursday afternoon.

“A decision about Friday will be made as soon as possible, but not made until early [Friday] morning due to the nature of the storm,” Spinelli said.

Foxborough Regional Charter Schools also reportedall after school activities were cancelled Thursday.

"Given the projections of the storm and anticipated travel conditions, all after school activities, including late buses and the extended day program, will be cancelled Thursday," FRCS reported on its Facebook page. "Students will be released according to our regularly-scheduled dismissal times. The school will close immediately after dismissal to give our students, families and staff time to travel safely home."
