Warriors Win Big in League Opener

Foxborough dominates Sharon winning 13-4.

The Foxborough boys’ lacrosse team began the defense of their Hockomock League title with a big win Wednesday afternoon against Sharon. Despite Sharon getting an early lead on Foxborough, the Warriors fought back to win 13-4.

Sharon came out strong early on. Lead by Jake Rotman, the Eagles took a quick 1-0 to start the game. Not willing to let Sharon get early momentum, Foxborough fought back with two quick goals.

Connon Whalen got the Warriors on the board only 46 seconds after the initial Sharon goal. 32 seconds later, Whalen put the Warriors up 2-1. The goals woke up the Warriors as they played a more physical game after the two Connor goals.

Getting up 3-1 late in the 1st quarter, Rotman struck again to get the Eagles back to within 1. With the Eagles back in striking distance, the Warriors once again fought back with a goal from Tyler Ames to end the quarter with a 4-2 lead. Despite the lead at the end of the quarter, the Warriors took a little but longer to get into the games than the Eagles.

“Came out a little bit relaxed,” said Warriors coach Matt Noon. ”Just not ready to play and it took us a quarter to wake up and we started to pick out the level to play.”

The Warriors would wake up in the second with 5 goals and holding Sharon to 0 goals. Billy Roberts got 2 goals for the Warriors in the quarter including an extra man goal. Connor Whalen also got a goal to give him an early hat trick. The Warriors were also strong in this half on the man advantage, going 2/3 when the Eagles were down a player.

Roberts would become the 2nd Warrior of the afternoon to get a hat trick in the 3rd period. James Stather and Alex Pacitti would also get goals.

The Warriors continues their aggressive game plan in the second half that was successful in the first half. They played tough defense and were constantly in the face of the Eagles’ attackers. That play led to the Warriors holding the Eagles scoreless in the second and third quarters. The run, showed Foxboro’s ability to respond when an opponent is successful against them.

“Its about responding to adversity. That is what I’ve been trying to get them to do. Today they responded to adversity. It was a good game,” said Noon.

Anthony Fertitta would get a goal for the Warriors in the fourth quarter to put them up 13-2. Jake Rotman would get two late goals for a game high four goals.

Billy Roberts and Connon Whalen led the Warrors in scoring with 3 goals each. Whalen had an exceptional game with 2 assists in addition to the goals.

“That is what I expect from Connor. He can shoot the ball and finish. They just seem to have it. He just could of beat his man ever time if he had it.”

With the win, the Warriors improve to 2-0 and 1-0 against the Hockomock League. Next up for the Warriors is a match at Canton High School on Friday. Game time is set for 3:30pm.
