School Committee Approves New Director of Special Ed.

A new director of special education for the Foxboro Public Schools will soon be coming to town. With a vote of 5-0 the school committee voted this week to approve Dr. Sandra Einsel as the new director of special education.

Superintendent Debra Spinelli called Einsel a most qualified candidate.

“She has such a vast experience and depth of experience in every aspect of education and having served in a broad role as director of student services she really does bring more that we’ve ever had in terms of someone who is going to connect with regular ed. and has lots of ideas to do so,” Spinelli said. “We would really like to tap into that broader definition of what it means to be in special education but broader as how does it connect to regular ed.”

Einsel comes to Foxboro after serving as the director of student services for the Holliston Public Schools since July 2009. Despite the late opening, Einsel said the reputation of the school system’s leadership made the job worth applying for.

“Even though this is a middle of the year position I didn’t feel like I could pass it up. Your leadership team is well known in this area and it’s an extraordinary team I would like to be apart of,” Einsel said.

Before working in Holliston, she spent about 14 years in the Walpole Public Schools as the director of pupil services and the out-of-district coordinator.

While working on her PhD, Einsel worked for Boston Colege as the clinical supervisor of student teachers from Sept. 1994 to May 1995. She was also the assistant principal of the BC campus school, supervisor of student teachers, and a teacher at the BC campus school while at Boston College starting in 1978.

Einesl received her bachelor’s degree from Trinity University of San Antonio, TX in 1976 and attended Boston College for her masters in education in 1979, masters in counseling education/psychology in 1983, and her doctorates in high education and special education in 1907.

Einsel replaces Arlene Grubert as the director of special education. An interim director will still maintain the position until a contract is worked out.
