ORIGINAL STORY -

A rash of radio system thefts from area school buses has alerted Foxborough police and school administration after two recent break-ins at the town bus yard.

“We have had a series of break-ins … [people] stealing the radio systems out of the buses,” Foxborough Schools Business Administrator Bill Yukna said at Monday’s School Committee meeting.

Yukna told committee members there have been two break-ins in Foxborough and four radio systems have been taken from the town’s buses. The most recent break-in occurred this past Friday.

“I think they got scared away both times because they only took a couple [radios] each time,” Yukna said.

The problem has been much bigger in Sharon, according to Yukna and with the Michael J. Connolly and Sons, Inc. bus company out of Walpole.

“Sharon was hit hard, Connolly bus line was hit hard,” Yukna said. “I think Connolly said they lost close to 80 radios.”

Yukna said the radio thefts at the Foxborough bus yard and throughout the area have heightened security in town.

“The police are more vigilant and we are taking other security measures,” said Yukna.

Yukna said the bus radios cost about $250 each.
