Igo Students Will Run for Fun!

Igo students will participate in a Fun Run this Friday, May 27, to raise funds to improve their playground.

This Friday, May 27, Igo students will participate in the 7th annual Fun Run. Previously chaired by Joanne Rogers, Foxborough resident, Kirsten Grace, took the reigns as chairperson last year and says it has been a great success!

The students are sent home with brown bags and asked to collect donations from family and friends, up until the day of the race.  From there, the PTO collects the funds and makes plans on how to improve the current Igo playground area.

The Fun Run takes place during each grades' recess time and is carried out with the help of parent volunteers, PTO members and Ms. Sue Brown of the Physical Education Department. There is also a Dare Officer, from the Foxborough Police Department there to help out and promote healthy living through exercise.

Children will run through three stations- a hurdle station, an obstacle run and a track relay. All children may participate in the Fun Run regardless of their ability to raise funds or donate.

Chairperson Kirsten Grace, stated that, "overall, it's a great event to participate in because the kids learn about fund-raising, the funds go towards the playground that they use daily, and they exercise and compete in an organized physical event during recess time...can't beat it!"

The Fun Run raised about $2,500.00 last year, and Grace is hopeful that this year's fundraiser will produce the same amount. It is great to see the Igo student's learning and seeing through the steps of fund-raising: working together to raise money, following through with the event, and seeing the end result of improving their school's playground.
