Foxborough to Highlight Teaching and Learning

The Foxborough School Committee plans to highlight teaching and learning moments at every meeting.

Superintendent of Foxborough Public Schools, Debra Spinelli, was quoted last spring in saying that the goal for Foxborough Schools is to go from "great to greater." Chairman of the School Committee, Bruce Gardner, recently suggested a new idea which aims to do just that.

The School Committee is adding a new agenda item to their meetings that will focus on highlighting "behind the scenes" activities in the hallways and classrooms of Foxborough schools.

The agenda item labeled, "Teaching and Learning Highlights," will bring to light small teaching and learning highlights that students are doing. Ideas could stem from students, teachers, or anybody who has an idea for something that is going good in the schools.

The idea, suggested by Gardner, aims to pull the curtain back and showcase all the great things happening in Foxborough schools.

Spinelli, who said they already have a list of highlights, believes that School Committee meetings are similar to business meetings and that many of the "wonderful things" going on in the schools are left out between all of the approvals and votes.

"Good opportunity for the public to learn about the exciting things going on in the schools that we often do not have a chance to talk about," said Spinelli

Gardner kicked off the new agenda item by noting a recent highlight that stood out to him.

"[In the] back to school issue of the local papers, all of the neighboring districts talked about [having financial problems and other issues] and there was one district being called out as being ready to take the next leap forward and that was ," he said.

Gardner noted, "It bodes well for our future."
