Foxborough High and Taylor Elementary Schools Join ‘Boston Strong Day’ Efforts for Marathon Victims

Foxborough students will wear their favorite sports shirts and hats to show off their Boston pride Friday and a voluntary fundraiser has been set up to collect donations for The One Fund Boston to aid Marathon victims.

Foxborough students at Igo Elementary, Ahern Middle, Foxborough High and Taylor Elementary schools are encouraged to wear their favorite Boston sports shirts and hats to school Friday to celebrate "Boston Strong Day" and show support for all those affected by last week's attacks on the Boston Marathon.

Igo Elementary School principal Mike Stanton announced the special spirit day in an e-mail to parents earlier this week.

"Students and staff are encouraged to wear their favorite Boston shirt and/or hat to school to show off their pride in our wonderful city," Stanton said. "Additionally, we will be holding a special voluntary fundraiser on Friday. All proceeds will be donated to The One Fund Boston in order to help the people most affected by the tragic events that occurred in Boston on April 15th. The suggested donation is $1, but any contribution will gladly be accepted."

Ahern principal Sue Abrams loved Stanton's idea so much she decided to bring "Boston Strong Day" to the middle school as well.

"The Ahern Middle School is making plans for fund raising to benefit those involved in the recent tragic events," Abrams said. "In addition, the School Climate Task Force and Teacher Leadership Team will be meeting to coordinate further efforts that support school, community and statewide efforts."

On Wednesday, Foxborough Superintendent of Schools Debra Spinelli confirmed that Foxborough High School and Taylor Elementary School will be participating in Friday's "Boston Strong Day." All schools but Taylor Elementary School will be collecting voluntary donations for The One Fund Boston.

Foxborough students returned to school Monday following a weeklong vacation for spring break.  Spinelli said Monday was "very quiet" around the district and staff and resources were in place to help students discuss last week's tragedy.
