Foxborough Recognizes Retiring School Employees

Monday’s School Committee meeting took a trip down memory lane as the committee recognized eight retiring Foxborough school employees for their years of service in the school district.

Bruce Gardner, School Committee chair, presented the eight retirees with a gift of their appreciation and thanked them for their dedication to the children and families of Foxborough. 

Foxborough Retirees: 

• Leslie Berman - Pre-School Speech/Language Teacher, 1982-2011
• Maria DeFelice, English Teacher, 2009-2011
• Betty O'Connor, Transportation, 1990-2011 
• John Robinson, Grade 7, Ahern Middle School, 1978-2011
• Martha Schulhaus, Grade 2, Taylor School, 1990-2011 
• Karen Schwartz, Special Educator, Taylor School, 1996-2011
• Chet Stoughton, Custodial, Foxborough High School, 1985-2011 

Gardner saved the last retiree recognition for the end of the meeting.

The school committee gave a special thanks to Superintendent Dr. Christopher Martes, who is also retiring this year. Martes received a bag full of gifts, including Warrior sweatpants, sweatshirt, visor and the most appropriate retiring gift - Warrior golf balls. 

"Its been a great pleasure for me to work here as a teacher, to coach and to be given my first opportunity to lead," said a humbled Martes.  "The work I have done in connection with the school committee....a supportive school committee, who works for the better of not only the school system but the entire community – that is unique." 

The committee teased Martes about his plans for retirement, but Martes, a dedicated educator, is not ready just yet to give up his passion for the golf course. 

"I am contemplating three interesting things to do. I don’t mind working off mine own to do list – but I am not working off my wife’s to do list – so I will be working," Martes joked.
