UPDATED: Foxborough Public Schools Closed on Friday

Foxborough Public Schools will be closed because of approaching blizzard.

UPDATED at 7:02 p.m. -- Superintendent Debra Spinelli has decided to cancel school on Friday.

ORIGINAL STORY -- While many schools across the region have closed in advance of Friday’s snowstorm, Foxborough Public Schools will open for a half day, according to Foxborough Superintendent of Schools Debra Spinelli.

“Foxborough Public Schools will be closing early Friday, Feb. 8th due to the incoming snowstorm,” Spinelli said. “Based on current weather projections, light snowfall during the day is expected to amount to about an inch by 2 p.m. with heavier accumulations beginning around 2 p.m. Our early dismissal will help to ensure safe travel home before the snow picks up.”

Dismissal times for each school is as follows:

  • Foxborough High School: 11 a.m.
  • Ahern Middle School: 11:37 a.m.
  • Igo Elementary School: 12:07 p.m.
  • Burrell Elementary School: 12:07 p.m.
  • Taylor Elementary School: 12:07 p.m.

Spinelli added that because parents have been given a day’s notice, the extended day after school care programs will not be open Friday.

“Please make arrangements for your child accordingly,” Spinelli said.

There is a chance that school could be closed Friday if the forecasts change “dramatically” by the morning.

“If the storm projections should change dramatically by tomorrow morning, resulting in unsafe conditions earlier in the day, our decision to open for the half day may change,” Spinelli said.
