Foxborough Public Schools Closed Monday, Feb. 11

As the town continues to dig out in the aftermath of Blizzard 2013, Foxborough Schools Superintendent Debra Spinelli announced Foxborough Public Schools will be closed Monday, Feb. 11.

The Blizzard of 2013 has left too much of a mess for Foxborough's DPW to clean up in time for schools to resume Monday and as a result, students will have an extended weekend.

"All Foxborough Public Schools will remain closed tomorrow, Monday, Feb. 11th," Spinelli said. "This will give our town workers more time to clear sidewalks and secondary roads for safe travel to school. At this point, we do plan to reopen on Tuesday. Thank you for your understanding. "

Foxborough DPW Director Roger Hill told Spinelli Saturday that he didn't see any hope in getting the schools opened for Monday.

"I think there’s too many miles of sidewalk to do and the schools are big and I just don’t think we can get it done by Monday," Hill said. "My recommendation to the schools is to go ahead and cancel Monday."

Spinelli said she would not make a decision Saturday as she had not heard from other superintendents around the region and remained hopeful that significant progress would be made by the DPW Sunday.

While the DPW has been working all day Sunday, the progress Spinelli was hoping for had not been made by Sunday afternoon, resulting in her decision to cancel school Monday.

This will be Foxborough's fourth weather-related closing of the 2012-13 academic calendar. Schools were closed for two days during Hurricane Sandy and twice (Friday, Feb. 8 and Monday, Feb. 10) for Blizzard of 2013.
