Foxborough Middle School Students Participate in Exchange City Job Fair

Middle school students experience the real life job hunt.

Foxborough middle school students are finding out early what life is like in the "real world." Over 240 students are participating in this year's Exchange City.

Students are given the opportunity to learn how an economy operates, explore their roles as citizens, discover their responsibilities as employees and tax payers, and learn how to manage their personal finances. This is done both in the classroom and on a field visit to Exchange City - a small, fully functional city that is completely run by students.

As part of the preparation for the experience, students completed their resumes, explored the Exchange City 'classified' ads, and interviewed for jobs of their choice.

The Exchange City Job Fair was held at the Ahern Middle School on Friday, May 6. The job fair was the first step towards the goal of working in the Exchange City. Students were interviewed for the positions of their choice by a number of community members. The jobs that students interviewed for included a newspaper reporter, photo-journalist, popcorn machine operator, co-owner of a snack shop, radio DJ, city hall, bank employees and more.

Students arrived to their interviews dressed in career clothing. Each student was armed with a professional resume and cover letter.

Foxborough Patch was fortunate to be involved in the interview process this year. Patch asked one student what she believed her greatest challenge would be in taking on the role of a newspaper reporter. The student responded, "My greatest challenge would be controlling my creative thoughts - sometimes I can be too creative." - Spoken like a true newspaper veteran.
