The following is the Teaching and Learning Highlight from the Foxborough School Department.

(Submitted by Amy Berdos, Foxborough Assistant Superintendent of Schools.)

Foxborough High School senior Cooper Vacheron and junior John Mitchell led off the first of two Teaching and Learning Highlights at Monday's School Committee meeting by sharing a video that they created to represent what it is like to be a student at Foxborough High School.

From the initial idea to final production, the boys’ goal was to capture Foxborough High School students and their thoughts about academics, sports, the arts, friendships and the bonds created at the high school.

Many student supports, especially those created through "The Warrior Huddle" were highlighted in the video. "The Warrior Huddle" provides an opportunity for students to connect with students in different grades and with teachers to engage in team building activities and discuss social issues pertinent to high school students such as goal setting, core values, and conflict resolution.

The support from fellow students and Foxborough teachers is described as passionate and caring. "Knowing I belong to something" was a theme voiced by many students throughout the video.

The video is completely student driven from the beginning vision to publication and was featured as the introduction to Foxborough High School's 10- year NEASC accreditation visit.

When asked about the inspiration for the video, Cooper described that the goal is to illustrate the leadership throughout the school and stress the importance of the "Warrior Huddle."

"It is a good representation of what the school is striving for," explained Cooper.

Students voiced the value of a program that fosters student responsibility for learning and results in shared ownership, pride, and high expectations for all.

Another student shared, "It feels really good when you are trying to grow up and you have a really good support system around you."

The second Teaching and Learning Highlight featured the Scholastic Art Awards received by Foxborough High School students. Foxborough High School Art Department Head Jerry Roy acknowledged several students that won a total of 19 individual art awards at the prestigious Scholastic Art Awards contest sponsored statewide by the Boston Globe.

Mr. Roy praised the students for their accomplishments and for their work on a daily basis. Kira Hallberg (2 Silver Key awards in Painting), Genevieve Rogan (Honorable Mention award in Sculpture) and Cooper Vacheron (Gold Key award in Computer Design, 2 Honorable Mention awards in Film and an Honorable Mention award in Photography) were among the award winners present at Monday's meeting and shared their thoughts about their recent awards.

All three award recipients voiced their satisfaction with being selected for an award in such a prestigious contest.

Whether it be academics, creativity or leadership, FHS students are worth celebrating and truly worth highlighting.
