Foxborough High School Students Attend 'Credit For Life' Fair

The fair teaches students how to budget their money.

The Attleboro Area School-to-Career Partnership along with Foxborough, Attleboro, North Attleboro, and Norton High Schools sponsored a "Credit For Life" fair at the Mansfield Holiday Inn for 250 seniors on March 31st.

The goal of the "Credit For Life" fair is to teach students how to make a personal financial budget.

Students participating in the fair are given a salary and must visit vendors to decide what lifestyle choices their budget allows them.

Vendor booths, staffed by more than 20 school faculty members and local business volunteers, included insurance, luxury goods, housing, clothing, furniture, food transportation, and travel.

Students were faced with many financial roadblocks including whether their budget permitted them to rent an apartment alone or spilt the cost with roommates.

Among other financial decisions, such as purchasing TVs and GPS systems, they also had to contemplate owning a car versus using public transportation.

Some students chose to spend cautiously, while other students refused to give up "luxury items," including high end mattresses and flat screen TVs, even if it meant that they would be in debt.

The fair ends when the students complete their budgets by visiting all the vendors. They then sit down with financial advisors, who review their choices and help them understand the repercussions.
