Foxborough Girls Lacrosse Team Ties Sharon

Sharon came from behind to even out the score 14-14.

The scoreboard said the Foxborough and Sharon high school varsity girls lacrosse teams tied 14-14 in their season opener Wednesday at Sharon High.

Foxborouugh head coach Jessica Cercone said she was "absolutely" pleased with her team's performance, given that the Warriors lost 10 seniors to graduation.

Cercone attributed the Warriors' second half to "first-game nerves, being out on a field, because with this weather, everyone's been confined to indoors."

"We really weren't aware of where everyone was on the field, kind of trying to rush it a litle too much," she said.

Sharon briefly led during the second half. However, the officials took the goal back after discovering the Eagles violated a rule involving players with yellow cards, Argimbau said.

"It happened, and luckily it didn't end up with a loss. I would've felt terrible. I feel bad enough that it was a tie."

The host Eagles also earned confidence, which their won-lost record may reflect at the end of the year.

"Nice to come from behind. It gave the girls some confidence. It was a nice thing to see the first game of the season," Sharon head coach Peg Argimbau said.

"Anne did a great job," Argimbau said.

"She was really in the right position and doing some good coverage. It really made a difference for us."

Foxborough plays again on Friday, hosting Canton at 3:30 p.m.
