FHS Wrestling Gain Victory Over Stoughton

At the end of the day, the score sheet will show a convincing win for the Foxborough wrestling team over Stoughton. What will not be there is how Stoughton made Foxborough earn the win with close scores and back and forth battles. Even with two forfeits, the Warriors (7-4) got past the Black Knights (2-5) 51-21.

The Warriors took the first of their 10 match wins after Jamie Peccaro pinned Brad Allen at 1:24 of the first period in the 106 pound match after Peccarro was able to turn a bulldog into the opening pin of the meet.

“He (Peccarro) looked good. He looked tough,” Foxborough head coach Jim Fraser said.

In the 113-pound match, the Warriors' Jake Dorman and Stoughton's Steve Collins went the distance after neither man could get a decision during the three periods of competition. Despite leading by two after the first and second period, Collins was unable to keep the lead as Dorman walked away with a 15-12 win. It was a close win for Dorman as he was trailing for most of the match before pulling it out in the end.

“He (Dorman) made kind of too many mistakes but anytime you come out with the win you’re never too mad,” Fraser said.

The Black Knights got their first win of the meet in the 152 pound match. Rob Mone pinned Salman Alam at 1:12 of the first period for a quick victory for Mone.

“He’s(Mone) a real strong kid. He’s been training really hard,” Stoughton head coach Justin Leonard said.

Stoughton’s other win came from a back and forth match between Foxborough’s Brendan Duffy and Sean Flagherty. In a match where neither wrestler could get an advantage or many takedowns, it was Flagherty that took the 4-2 win.

“He (Flagherty) had a tough match. He was smart about it,” Leonard said.

The intense pace took a toll on Duffy as two stalling calls gave Flagherty the two points he needed to avoid overtime and get the win.

“The big difference in that match was him pushing the pace,” Stoughton assistant coach Joshua Cross added.

A couple of forfeits in the 220 and 285 pound matches ended the meet and gave 12 free points to the Black Knights

Also getting wins for the Warriors was Tim Dure(120 pounds), John O’Neil(126),  Mat Marino (132 pounds), Aiden Smith(138 pounds), Brandon Ryan(145 pounds), Kyle Valanzola(160 pounds), Joe Littig (170 pounds), and Jack Shoener(195 pounds).

The Warriors will be at Oliver Ames on Jan.11 and the Black Knights will participate in a quad meet at New Bedford High School on Jan. 7.
