'Bye Bye Birdie' Opens Friday at Foxborough High

FHS Drama Club to present their spring musical March 18-20.

Broadway takes over Foxborough this weekend.

The Foxborough High School (FHS) Drama Club presents their spring musical, Bye Bye Birdie, this weekend, March 18-20.

Bye Bye Birdie centers around the sleepy town of Sweet Apple Ohio, which goes crazy when it gets a visit from the very popular teen idol Conrad Birdie.

Conrad has been drafted into the army, but before he goes, he will present "One Last Kiss" to Kim MacAfee, the president of the Sweet Apple chapter of his fan club.

The FHS musical features a student cast, student-directed pit band, and was even fully choreographed by a student.

The show stars Jon Urquhart in the role of Albert Peterson and Sydney Raymond in the role of Rose Alvarez.  The cast is rounded out by Jonah Philibert as Conrad Birdie and Lily Davis in the role of Kim MacAfee, who in the end gets kissed by Conrad.

The musical will be full of laughs and fun, including a hilarious Danielle O'Toole as Mama Peterson.

Shannon Wasilewski, English faculty member and Drama Club Advisor at FHS, said that the cast and crew has "been working on the show since January and are excited to be in the final stages of preparation."

"This week will focus on pulling all of the aspects of the show together, including the pit band, the choreography, the singing, the acting, and the technical aspects," said Wasilewski.

The musical features hit songs, "Put on a Happy Face!" and "Kids,"making for a fun evening for all.

"The musical is fun for the whole family and features songs we all know," said Wasilewski.

The curtain will open for Bye Bye Birdie this weekend, March 18-20, in the FHS auditorium.

The show times are Friday and Saturday at 7:00pm and Sunday, March 20 at 2:00pm.

Tickets are available at the door and are $5 for all students and senior citizens, $8 for adults, and free for FHS faculty & staff.

The FHS production of Bye Bye Birdie is sure to put on a happy face for all who attend.
