Bishop Feehan Hosts Chinese Educational Consultants

Bishop Feehan continues its quest to provide its students with opportunities to experience cross-cultural education.

Tuesday, Feehan Principal Bill Runey welcomed Feng Peiran, the Director of the Beijing Institute of Technology and Dr. Hong Yang, Director of the Confucius Institute at Bryant University for a tour of the campus and a discussion of how Feehan can enhance its partnership with the Confucius Institute as well as initiate collaboration with Peiran and his staff in Zhuhai.

“I am honored that Dr. Yang selected Feehan as a site for this discussion”, Runey said.  “The group was impressed with our track record of 100-percent college acceptances for the last five years as well as our remarkable number of National Merit Scholars.”

Later in the school year, Runey looks for Peiran and his colleagues to return to the school to take a more extensive look at Feehan’s curriculum and student life.

Peiran is interested in studying Feehan because in China the educational system is typically based on a system of comprehensive exams that play a major role in determining what students can study and which type of career they can pursue.

The Beijing Institute of Technology wants to offer an alternative to citizens of China where they receive a broader high school experience which gives them greater flexibility in college and career choices.

“The existing partnership with Bryant and the anticipated relationship with the Beijing Institute of Technology will create a rewarding cultural exchange at Feehan in which the Chinese and American students will benefit educationally through exposure to one another’s way of life”, said Minli Lusher, Feehan’s Mandarin Chinese Teacher.
